Woolworths Organic Tea and Coffee

Some more good news from Woolies and their efforts to help save our planet -all coffee and tea sold in Woolworths Cafés is certified organic and comes from Africa!

Whether your preferred cuppa is latte, cappuccino, espresso or Americano, if you´re a coffee lover, try the latest addition to the Woolworths Café menu – organically grown coffee.

Grown at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro and in thehighlands of Ethiopia, Woolworths’ new organic coffee is produced according to strict organic principles. That means no synthetic fertilisers or pesticides are used. Instead, local farmers rely on traditional, sustainable methods – in harmony with nature.

Unlike plantation coffee, where other vegetation is removed, our organic coffee is grown under a canopy of shade trees that both shelters the beans from the sun and creates a natural layer of compost that helps maintain good soil quality. The trees also provide a habitat for birds and other animals that in turnhelp feed the soil. It’s a winning combination.Local communities win too, because producing organic coffee is a labour-intensive exercise that provides many sustainable employment opportunities.
Woolworths is also working to ensure the growers get afair price for their crops.

Of course, coffee lovers benefit the most: shade-grown coffee matures slowly, allowing its flavours more time to develop, resulting in a rich, fragrant aroma and satisfyingly full flavour. If you prefer decaffeinated coffee you’ll be pleased to know Woolworths has also found an alternative to using chemicals or harsh processes for removing caffeine from its coffee. The secret? Sparkling water! Carbon dioxide, the gas that makes the bubbles, attracts caffeine in much the same way as a magnet, allowing it to be removed without affecting the flavour or aroma. Plus, thecarbon dioxide can be recycled.

If tea is more your bag, try one of Woolworths’ new all-African organic teas, including Rooibos, Earl Grey and Black.
