Help Save Water with LG´s New Washing Machine

South Africa is a semi-arid country with an annual average rainfall of 464 mm compared to a world average of 857 mm. This is far below a reasonable level and the fact is, water is an endangered source. Current annual water demand is 493 000 mega-litres, and historically, demand grows by at least 3.93 percent. At this rate, the annual demand in 10 years time would be 724 000 mega-litres per annum.

Rand Water can only supply approximately 500 000 currently, and the allocation in 10 years will be less than 600 000 mega-litres per annum. The company has committed itself to saving at least 90 000 mega-litres over a period of 10 years (2007 – 2017) in order to avert a water crisis by 2014. During, the first two quarters of the 2009/10 financial year, water demand was reduced by 15 323 mega-litres, and the focus of the company’s programmes is on encouraging behavioural change through communication.

The average consumer uses up to 50 litres of water each time they wash clothes meaning laundry is definitely one of the core functions that consume the largest volumes of water. LG has taken this into account and is doing its bit to help the consumer reduce consumption of water through its product offering.

If you buy the LG Steam Direct Drive washer for anything, it should be because it will save you money, reduce energy and water consumption, and wash your laundry better. By making use of vaporised steam together with its circulating shower function, the LG Steam Washer uses 20 percent less water per load than conventional washers, while cleaning clothes more efficiently.

Well done LG for continuing to make it easier for us to go green with our home appliances.
