Final screening of carbon nation tonight: A must-see!

For those of you in the Cape Town area, this is a MUST SEE!

carbon nation is a documentary movie about climate change SOLUTIONS. Even if you doubt the severity of the impact of climate change or just don´t buy it at all, this is still a compelling and relevant film that illustrates how SOLUTIONS to climate change also address other social, economic and national security issues. You´ll meet a host of entertaining and endearing characters along the way.

I went last night to see the film at its 2nd world premiere event at the Labia in Cape Town and absolutely loved the positive message it left you with, which made a pleasant change to many of the doccies I have seen recently which just spread an unhopeful message of the doom and gloom that is the current climate problem. The documentary illustrates that with the right leadership, clean energy, energy efficiency and correct land use, the solutions to climate change are well within our grasp. It also emphasises that it´s the small changes one makes that really do make a BIG difference. For instance, if everyone in New York City swapped out their regular light bulbs for CFL´s they would be able to power the entire NYC subway system on the savings! And if you paint your roof white this reflects the sunlight which in turn makes your home or office cooler and therefore reduce the amount of power needed to cool it down in summer, not to mention this will also help reduce your utility bill massively! I also had no idea that fridges were such huge carbon dioxide emitters – 2 fridges hold 10 tons of CO2, so PLEASE make sure you dispose of them responsibly once they have reached there maximum lifespan.

Here is the trailor to the film – gotta love the bumper sticker on the Prius!

Why I loved the movie:

  • carbon nation is an optimistic, solutions-based, non-preachy, non-partisan, big tent film that shows tackling climate change boosts the economy, increases national & energy security and promotes health & a clean environment.
  • Public opinion is sliding the wrong way – far fewer people are concerned about climate change than even a year ago. We’ve made carbon nation to give a majority of people an entertaining, informed and pragmatic primer about why it’s incredibly smart to be a part of the new, low-carbon economy: it’s good business.
  • carbon nation´s optimism and pragmatism are appealing across the political spectrum. While other good films have been about problems, blame and guilt, carbon nation is a film that celebrates solutions, inspiration and action.

It´s a no brainer guys, going green creates jobs and therefore protects the economy AND the environment at the same time.

Quotes from carbon nation:

Do I think man is causing global warming? No, but that doesn’t make any difference. I want clean water and I want clean air. And that’s so simple.” THE CRAZY ALASKAN

Climate change in fact is a national security issue. This is no longer the purview of Birkenstock-wearing tree huggers. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.” THE ARMY COLONEL

So if you don’t give a damn about the environment, do it because you’re a greedy bastard and you just want cheap power.” THE BIOCHEMICAL ENGINEER

Don´t miss the final showing of carbon nation, tonight at the Labia on Orange in Cape Town. Phone 021 424 5927 to reserve your ticket now, tickets are R20 per person.
