The Edge´s eco homes plan ´bad for environment´

U2 guitarist The Edge is facing a setback in his plan to build five eco-friendly homes overlooking Malibu amid claims the project could actually disrupt the environment

Staff for the California Coastal Commission, which is charged with conserving the state´s coastline, recommended officials reject the rock star´s proposal which includes five mansions each of around 10,000 square feet.

They are planned for an undeveloped ridge line in the Santa Monica Mountains with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. The Edge, also known as David Evans, and U2 have long championed environmental issues and he says the homes, part of a project called “Leaves in the Wind,” will be some of the most environmentally sensitive ever designed in the world.

They will be solar powered, water will be recycled and the earth-toned edifices have been designed to blend in unobtrusively with their natural surroundings. The buildings would include The Edge´s own dream home, which would be built to look like scattered leaves from a distance.
