Delicious Nutritious Marinated Pear by Jenny Louw

We told you about Jenny´s new book Earth Artist here, well now we are trying out some of her recipes so prepare to indulge!

“I love this dish as it is totally delicious, rich and tasty and definitely not a health hazard! The pears become soft without having to cook them and thus render the whole dish way less nutritious.

  • 10 to 12 ripe pears
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 heaped tablespoon raw untreated honey
  • a good pinch rock or sea salt
  • a squeeze of lemon juice
  • 1 large tablespoon gently melted coconut oil (optional)

Thinly slice the pear into a medium sized bowl.
Add all the other ingredients and mix through thoroughly. Do not worry if the pear breaks up a little. This makes the end result more gooey and yummy.
Set aside the bowl, in a warm place eg. in the warmer draw or near the fire, for a good few hours. The pears marinade and will become soft and almost caramelized. (You can drain off the juices, but keep them as they are delicious added to muesli) .

Divide into four to six bowls. Sprinkle with crushed almonds and hazelnuts and if you like a dollop of organic raw cream or yoghurt and enjoy! “I also keep the pears in a closed container in the fridge and add them to breakfast. Or I add them to my special pear tart…”
