Africology Copper & Hot Stone Pedicure at Ginger Lily Spa

It’s funny how you can live just about your whole life in a city and still discover new places! Well today was one of those days. I was invited for a pedicure by Africology to the Ginger Lily Spa in Constantia. I have driven past this quaint centre a few times but never been in (for Capetonians it can be found behind Farriers on Constantia Main Rd). It’s been done up beautifully with a stoned courtyard that houses a few other little shops, a tea room called High Tea which I didn’t have time to try out but will definitely go back as I hear their cake is to die for, and then the Ginger Lily Spa. Under new ownership since May this year, this boutique beauty and nail spa is a tranquil space with soothing decor.

The treatment rooms are bright and peaceful music plays for the duration of your treatment. I was treated to the Africology Copper and Hot Stone pedicure. This is no express pedi but rather a nourishing, uber-indulgent experience – perfect if you are looking to escape the cold outside. First off your feet are soaked in a copper bowl in order to warm them up and draw out any toxins. Next up is feet maintenance time after which your feet are exfoliated and then  massaged with Africology’s Body Balm that has been melted in a burner and hot stones are used on the soles of the feet. I wished that the massage part was longer as it’s extremely relaxing and I could feel the stress escaping from my body. The treatment is also meant to include a leg and calf massage to help with circulation and reduce water retention.

After the massage feet are treated to an African potato wrap with rooibos extract. Feet are placed in plastic bags (I felt that perhaps you could forgo the plastic) and then wrapped in a warm towel for a few minutes while you enjoy a cup of tea. After which your paint is applied.

I prefer smaller spas where customer service and satisfaction are key and Ginger Lily definitely came out tops in this regard. This indulgent pedicure would make the perfect gift and in celebration of Women’s Day on the 9th, if you book any treatment in the month of August you get 50% off.

The Africology Copper and Hot Stone Pedicure at Ginger Lily costs R430 for 90 minutes.
