The fashion world is abuzz with updates coming out of New York Fashion Week and to kick off Fashion Week in New York, sustainable online retailer Modavanti.com took New York by storm, by staging three flash fashion shows. Organizers and models rolled out the green carpet to unsuspecting audience members, showcasing twelve sustainable looks on the fly. The fashion frenzy began at Madison Square Park, before popping up in Union Square then Washington Square Park.
With a mission to make sustainability sexy, Modavanti teamed up with Aushim Raswant of 3vNYC to create New York’s first flash mob fashion show. With New York already gearing up for fashion week, the surprising fashion shows were a creative way to get Modavanti’s wares seen, targeted to an audience of actual potential customers, rather than an invite-only list.
Bystanders eating lunch or taking a break in each park were delightfully confused when Modavanti’s posse took over each space, bringing a giant green carpet, fashion friendly music, and a crew of twelve models to each site. Like any fashion show, the models walked the make shift runway, smiling and posing, and giving the public a taste of sexy sustainable fashion.
Modavanti.com, an online shopping destination that launched in February 2013 to provide shoppers with contemporary sustainable fashion choices without compromising on style, has more than doubled the number of designers and collections featured on the site. With over 50 brands from which to choose, Modavanti.com’s mission is to be at the forefront of the sustainable fashion movement by building an active community around a carefully curated and socially responsible shopping experience.
In addition to allowing shoppers to search for apparel and accessories by type, designer and price, the site also incorporates a unique sustainability badge system that makes it clear to customers how and why the item they are buying is eco-friendly and ethically sourced. Visitors to Modavanti.com can search for products according to eight main criteria: made in the U.S., organic, vegan, recycled/repurposed, energy efficient, handmade, fair trade and eco-conscious.
