Ethical Fashion E-tailer, Zady, Launches Pop-up at La Guardia Airport

I stumbled upon Zady’s online store a couple of weeks ago and have been meaning to do a post since. Just this week Zady has launched a pop-up ethical fashion store in NYC’s busy LaGuardia airport, just in time for the holidays.

The store will be open seven days a week, from 6 a.m. until final departure, through January 4 2014.

“It’s the holidays. Everyone’s going back home and gifts are a very important part,” co-founder Maxine Bedát told the Daily News. “We wanted to tap into that, and the airport is a great place to find those customers.”

Zady began with a grand vision: to combat the fast-fashion craze by providing a platform for only those companies that care about timeless style and solid construction. Founders Soraya Darabi and Maxine Bédat believe that ethical fashion has parallels to the food movement, which taught us that although eating sustainably may be more expensive, it pays dividends in taste and health.

Their online shop is beautifully designed  and so are the clothes. It’s easy to navigate and I love how each item has it’s own “beyond the label” section where the supply chain is identified and all materials and manufacturing techniques explained.

With these eco-pioneers and successful business women at the helm {Formerly the social media manager for The New York Times, Darabi went on to launch the mobile app Foodspotting, which was reportedly sold to OpenTable for $10 million; Bédat comes to Zady with a background in international law and development, and is the founder of The Bootstrap Project, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting craft artisans in the developing world} we are sure Zady is going to be a great success.
