Actress Maisie Williams, who plays the scrappy Arya Stark in the HBO hit Game of Thrones, arrived at Entertainment Weekly’s annual San Diego Comic-Con party on Sunday wearing a gown made out of recycled comic books. Created by Ryan Novelline, a mixed-media artist who once sculpted a dress from discarded Golden Books, the appropriately titled “Zam” gown combines graphics from Marvel’s X-Men, Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, and Takeuchi Naoko’s Sailor Moon, along with hemp satin, velvet ribbon, glass beads, and other repurposed fabrics.
In a nod to William’s career-defining role, Novelline devised an accent belt using pages from a secondhand copy of A Game of Thrones by G.R.R. Martin.
This was not the first sighting of the upcycled dress, the dress has been “recycled” in more ways than one. Williams previously wore the gown while judging the “Out of Print” fashion show at Bookbarn International in Bristol in June.
