Esprit’s new collection of women’s sneakers isn’t just vegan-friendly, it’s also endorsed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Available online and at Esprit retailers in more than 40 countries, the faux-leather and canvas kicks feature “PETA-Approved Vegan” hang tags that proclaim in English, French, and German, “This product has been designed to be kind to animals. It is vegan-approved by PETA, meaning that no animal has been involved in the production of this product.”

“We’d like to thank Esprit for setting a wonderful example of sustainable, ethical fashion for retailers around the world to follow,” wrote the animal-rights group’s U.K. office in a blog post last Thursday. “The leather trade is one of the most damaging industries on the planet, because of its wide-scale abuse and slaughter of animals, the pollution it generates, and the damage it causes to human health.”

This isn’t the first time Esprit and PETA have linked arms. The apparel brand received the PETA Germany Vegan Fashion Award in 2013 for best women’s shoes. The winning footwear, a storm-blue stiletto pump with a high-gloss pointed toe and top-stitched heel, comprises 100 percent vegan materials, including what the company describes as a “robust pleather.”
