Contouring is one of the most important parts of your makeup routine, helping you accentuate your bone structure and highlight your best facial assets. But now a new technique called strobing might just kick contouring aside. Here’s what it’s all about.
Strobing is basically a way to highlight your face but in a much easier way than contouring. This is perfect for summer because it gives you a fresh-faced, glowing appearance.
How to Get Bright, Defined Skin
Before you even start the process of getting radiant skin, you must ensure that you’ve moisturised it well. If your skin looks dry, it will start to appear dull, which will totally deflate any strobing or illuminating attempts on your part.
Once your skin is moisturised well, get your hands on a highlighter that is a close match to your skin. This one highlighting product will be used instead of the two products (one lighter and one darker) that form part of contouring tutorials. If you have fair skin opt for a champagne tone; darker tones work well with terracotta, and so on. Try Zuii Diamond Sparkle that is certified organic blush but can be used as a highlighter and comes in six shades, or Faerie Organic’s Glow Illuminator-Highlighter that gives you healthy, luminous skin.
You want to apply your highlighter to areas of your face that pull the most light. These are:
- the highest points of your face, such as your cheekbones, eyebrow bones, and temples
- the cupid’s bow of your lip.
- in the eye corners, which will help to accentuate your eye shape and eye makeup.
Although it can be tempting, avoid the impulse to use the highlighter all over. You only want to highlight certain points of your face as this will bring them to attention and give you a sculpted appearance.
Keep Shining
Always blend the highlighter well with your fingers as you don’t want to look like you’ve applied stripes to your face! After you have used the highlighter, apply your other makeup, such as your bronzer or blusher, and gently blend it all well with the highlighter so that you get a natural yet defined look.
One of the bests things about strobing is that it’s much easier to do, makes use of less products, and the bonus of this is that it’s harder for you to make an error. A dash of illumination and you can be out the door in no time!
