Beaches call to mind relaxation time, sun, sand and beautiful views. But if you’re on vacation with your kids, you’ll know that they won’t be satisfied by lying in the sun with an e-book all day. Here are some fun and safe beach activities for kids that will make everyone’s holiday more enjoyable.
Build a Tent
Kids can make a beach tent easily. Let them go on a search to find long sticks and then place them in the sand. All they need is a large towel to throw over the sticks. They can make a day of decorating the tent with items they find on the beach. The tent can also be a great rest-stop for them during the day when they need to chill out for a bit, plus it will keep them safe from the sun.
Bring an Inflatable Pool
While your older kids might be okay with swimming in the sea, you want your little ones to have fun, too. Bring an inflatable pool with buckets and they’ll enjoy every minute of splashing around.
Send them on a Treasure Hunt
There are many interesting things kids can search for on the beach so send them on a treasure hunt. The winner gets a fun prize! Items that they can look for include seaweed, sea glass and seashells. Remember to let your kids leave those pretty shells behind when you leave the beach, though. Research has found that seashells are decreasing in number due to people taking them and this isn’t good for the environment, largely because shells are used by animals. An example is how crabs use them as homes.
Play Beach Pictionary!
This is a fun game that will entertain the kids. Instead of regular Pictionary, kids can play the game by drawing pictures in the sand. You can write words onto cards and then use these as a starting point for the kids to get creative with their drawings.
Make Sand Castles with Cups
Bring some plastic cups along and let kids make sandcastles with them. Fill the cups with sand and then place them upside down. Remove the cups and there you go: quick and easy castles! They can use other items too, such as bottles, and it is sure to inspire them to get even more creative with the activity.
