Soil for Life is inviting people to Eat for the Earth this June, in celebration of World Environment Day. Now in its fifth year, the annual Eat for the Earth campaign brings together food, friends, family (even colleagues) to help create abundant food gardens in low-income areas. It’s a delicious way to help make a difference.
To participate simply invite your friends to a meal – breakfast, lunch, high tea or supper -anytime in June, whenever and wherever suits you best. Ask each guest to contribute by making a donation to Soil for Life. The non-profit organisation will sow all the funds you raise into growing healthy soil, people and communities.
Soil for Life’s award-winning Home Food Gardens programme helps establish tiny green oases in what were once bleak and barren environments. People learn how to create sustainable gardens in the smallest of spaces, enabling them to provide nutritious produce for their family for years to come. The environmental benefits are enormous; organic waste becomes a precious resource instead of landfill and people reconnect with the earth.
Earthshine is one of the companies embracing the Eat for the Earth campaign this year. They are hosting a raw, vegan brunch in Soil for Life’s beautiful Constantia garden on Thursday 16 June. Tickets are R150 per person, with all profits going directly to Soil for Life. This is an ideal opportunity to discover how delicious raw food can be, with raw granola, flapjacks and juices on the menu.
