Summer Fashion Trends 2013

summer fashion trends

Summer is arguably the most important time in the world of fashion. Designers from all over the world try to outdo each other every year in order to bring the best, most feminine and most beautiful items to stores. Here’s a quick round-up of some of the great fashion trends for summer 2013:

Big, bold prints and graphics

Designers like Marc Jacobs, Holly Fulton and Mary Katrantzou have all focused on including big swirls and colourful, bold prints in their summer fashion lines. The great thing about this look is that you can keep accessories like bags, jewellery and shoes to a minimum and let the prints on the clothes shine through. If you’re into photographical prints, super enlargements, 3D trickery and shadowed imagery, then this is the look for you this summer. One of the most popular prints to look out for is the birds and mountain imagery, as seen at Missoni at London Fashion Week.

Buy a neckerchief

This fashion accessory will be all the rage this season. One of the ways that you can DIY a neckerchief to be more eco-friendly is by simply up-cycling your old clothes to create this scarf yourself. Here’s a YouTube tutorial on how to turn an old T-shirt into a neckerchief or infinity scarf.

Simplistic beauty

While over-the-top graphics and prints are in this season, the designers are all very simplistic and straightforward. Square-cut T-shirts and A-line pleated skirts are all over the runway, so there’s no need to go out and buy lace-over-lace or flowing, intricate designs.

Sugary hues

Sugary hues like pinks, blues, yellows and lilacs are in this season. Fashion designer Christopher Bailey dedicated an entire range, called Burberry Prorsum collection, to these colours. “Pink has become a neutral,” said Central Saint Martins professor Louise Wilson. So if you’re over the whole beige look, just find the perfect pink for you and stick to these sugary colours this summer.
