A new Marks & Spencer store in Britain is going green in a big way!

Set to open at the Vangarde Shopping Centre in Monks Cross, England, Marks & Spencer’s new store is going to be one of the greenest of the company, furnished with electric car charging points, 600 solar panels, and living walls.

These two green living walls are going to cover 1,800 square feet and they will be designed in such a way to maintain heat while attracting wildlife to it. The living walls will also provide natural insulation and help to purify the air.

Other eco-friendly  initiatives include 62 plant types situated around the superstore and a 60,000 litre tank to be used to recycle rainwater.

Of course, the store is set to attract consumers with what they have on offer, such as greater choices when it comes to beauty, food, fashion and home items, as well as leading brands such as Nuxe, Monotheme and Murad.  The great thing is that while customers browse through top-notch goods, they can also enjoy the healthy green environment.

It’s not the first M&S store to incorporate such green changes as there have been others, however it will be one of the most eco-friendly and sustainable that exists. Marks & Spencer is committed to being kinder to the planet and has also agreed to a Greenpeace challenge to remove dangerous chemicals from its clothing and textile chain by the year 2020, with the hope of being one of the most sustainable retailers in the industry. Making green changes to stores to make use of energy-saving technology is another step that the company is taking in their Plan A strategy that was launched in 2007. This plan is striving to achieve 180 commitments by the year 2015 to deal with various eco issues, such as promoting fair trade, battling climate change, decreasing waste and promoting health.

The eco fab Marks & Spencer store will open on Thursday, 10 April 2014.
