Meet Remake Design Challenge OBJECT finalist and 2nd year at Design Time, Chelsea Graham. We find out what inspired this green tea loving, young, aspiring designer’s “shape-shifter” kitchen storage range.

If your collection had a theme song, what would it be?

Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO.

One thing we need to know about you as a designer?

I love the colour white.

I can’t start my day without…

A cup of green tea.

You are currently obsessed with?

Pinterest! I can’t get enough of it. It’s so inspiring and helps me when I get a design block.

Name one designer you would most like to meet?

Charles Eames.

My own style is…

Monochromatic with clean lines.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Stop waiting for things to happen, go out and make them happen.

Tell us a little more about your ’KITCHEN STORAGE’ collection. What inspired you?

I was inspired by Origami shapes, and wanted to bring it across in my design in a subtle way. I love how Origami can just be a piece of paper folded in such a way to create something so beautiful, and I wanted to bring that same concept into my kitchen storage design.

What challenges have you experienced by adhering to the competition principles of using sustainable design techniques?

Making it a realistic design. Sometimes you can think up such a crazy design, only to realise it will never work realistically.

What’s on your horizon?

Travels and learning. I am only at the beginning of such an amazing journey in design, and I still have so much more to learn and experience.

What excites you?

Adventure.

How do your friends describe you?

Sweet, kind and great taste.

What is your most treasured piece in your home?

My 3 piece Andy Warhol quoted prints, that hang above my bed. I read them everyday, they inspire me.

Top tip when it comes to sustainable design?

Manipulating a material through design, that it can not be recognised for it’s original purpose.
