Nike has unveiled what it considers its most innovative football cleat to date. Designed to commemorate the first College Football Playoff, the “Vapor Untouchable” is the sportswear giant’s first cleat to incorporate recycled polyester. Each pair of shoes comprises the equivalent of five recycled plastic bottles, stitched together using Nike’s waste-reducing “Flyknit” technology. Coupled with other feats of engineering, including the supportive Carbon V-Plate, the Vapor Untouchable combines second-skin mobility with strength and durability, according to Nike.
“The Nike Vapor Untouchable pushes the limits of speed on the field, and leverages the power of sustainable innovation to reduce environmental impact off the field,” says Ken Link, cleated design director at Nike Football. “Over the past 18 months, we gathered deep athlete insights and tested this cleat at every level. Athletes have told us that this cleat feels like an extension of the foot—allowing them the speed they need with freedom of movement unlike anything else they’ve tried.”
