Messe Frankfurt acquires Ethical Fashion Show

Messe Frankfurt’s French subsidiary has taken over the Ethical Fashion Show in Paris

The acquisition, which was announced last week at a press conference in the French capital, is part of Messe Frankfurt’s aim of increasing its presence in the garment-manufacturing sector while also encouraging fair trade and sustainable business practices.

The Ethical Fashion Show was launched in 2004 by Isabelle Quéhé and now features more than 100 brands covering couture, accessories, ready-to-wear garments, sportswear and streetwear. It focuses exclusively on ecological, socially responsible and environmentally friendly garment production.

For The Ethical Fashion Show, being part of Messe Frankfurt´s portfolio of trade events will allow it to develop its international presence while for Messe Frankfurt, the acquisition means it now covers the entire value chain in the textile-fair sector.

We intend to consolidate its (The Ethical Fashion Show´s) profile and develop its presence at international level,” said Detlef Braun, Member of the Board of Management of Messe Frankfurt. “Since 2007 Messe Frankfurt has been consistently committed at its textile fairs to products which have been manufactured in an environmentally and socially responsible way, thus creating a unique platform for sustainable materials and accessories.”

To ensure the fair runs smoothly, the current team in charge of the Ethical Fashion Show will be incorporated into the organisation of Messe Frankfurt France.

In Messe Frankfurt we have found the ideal partner,” added Isabelle Quéhé, the founder of the Ethical Fashion Show. “Given our joint values and respective experience, we are sure that we shall complement each other perfectly.”

The next edition will be held from 25 to 28 September 2010 at the Paris Fashion and Design Centre (Cité de la Mode et du Design) in the Seine Docks.
