Topshop Launches Second Reclaim to Wear Collection

Topshop has reunited with Orsola de Castro’s Reclaim to Wear initiative for a second collection of womenswear derived from upcycled materials, including production offcuts and surplus stock otherwise bound for the landfill. Comprising delicate floral-printed silks in bold color palettes, the capsule line features block-patterned sleeveless dresses with lace panels, oversized shirts with plaid georgette inserts, filmy camisoles with matching culottes, and double-vented pencil skirts, all made exclusively in the United Kingdom.

“We have been really proud to work with the Topshop team on the Reclaim To Wear collections, inspiring them to include upcycling as part of their practice,” says de Castro, whose pioneering From Somewhere label launched Reclaim to Wear in 1997 as a design solution to the problem of textile waste. “This is really an important step: one dress at a time, starting small, we are beginning to see that design can influence not just our style, but the way we think about clothes.

And while we might associate Topshop with “fast fashion,” the Reclaim to Wear collection is meant to be anything but. “We proudly partnered with one of our key London manufacturers on our second collection, with a focus on localism,” says Stephen Mongan, Topshop’s head of sourcing and technical services. “The inspiration behind the collection was to turn away from disposable fashion, giving a new lease of life to disregarded prints from previous seasons. We are looking forward to growing the Topshop Reclaim to Wear range, season on season, bringing more product areas into the portfolio.”

Topshop’s Reclaim to Wear collection will unfortunately not be available in SA but will be sold in the retailer’s London, New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Australia, Vancouver, and Japanese stores, as well as online at www.topshop.com.
