Today we sat for Round 1 with our Avant Garde dress judging panel: Poppy Evans, ELLE magazine SA’s Senior Fashion Director, Kerry Bell from CTFC, myself, Sabrina Schenk from vida e caffè and Stephanie Wolhuteringgs from Pick n Pay; to select our Top 10 finalists.
Avant Garde dress 2013 submissions have now closed. Thank you to all those who entered. We will be reviewing your submissions over the next two weeks and the Top 10 finalists will be posted on the site on 31 August 2013.
Avant Garde dress is a Live Eco design initiative brought to you by Pick n Pay. The idea behind the competition is to inspire young designers to think more sustainably and holistically when it comes to their creations and instill an element of eco-consciousness into their design skills.
August is d-day for our Avant Garde dress 2013 contestants. 2nd year design students from DAF, CTCFD, Elizabeth Galloway, CPUT, Fedisa and Northlink will be submitting their submissions on 16 August 2013 and we can’t wait to see their ideas.

On Monday we held the judging for Avant Garde dress 2012. On our judging panel was Elle Magazine SA’s editor, the lovely Jackie Burger, Stephanie Wolhuterinnggs from Pick n Pay, Bianca Fobian, MD of DAF and myself.
Tomorrow is our Avant Garde dress 2012 upcycled fashion photo shoot! I can’t believe how the time has flown. Yesterday we had the Avant Garde object eco design photo shoot which went really well so I am so looking forward to seeing the Avant Garde dress designs from DAF tomorrow!
