Love yourself!

If you’re single you don’t have to skimp on the Valentine’s Day fun. Make this one all about you and some green loving.

Leading an eco-friendly lifestyle not only makes you feel good because you’ve done your part to help alleviate the world’s environmental problems, but it also gives you a chance to live in light and love. What’s important to know is that eco-friendliness can form part of self-love as well as helping the environment.

Being single of Valentine’s Day is not always fun – sometimes as singles we dread the day and chances are you might feel low about not receiving any flirtatious e-cards. But instead of wishing you could pull a sick day and avoid all the red hearts and teddy bears that are flung your way, think of ways to spoil yourself instead – just make they’re green gifts so that the goodness doesn’t stop once the prezzies are unwrapped.

Natural good looks

If you don’t have a boyfriend to buy you some new makeup treats, who cares? Chances are he would get the colours wrong anyway! Head to the shop and buy some fabulous organic makeup.

How you benefit: You can pamper yourself with a bit of spoiling and look your best. But you’re also ensuring the prevention of putting harmful chemicals on your skin.
How the world benefits: You do your bit to save the beautiful animals of our world from undergoing cosmetic testing and the organic products often make use of recycled, sustainable products that are good for the environment.

Green treats

Indulging in chocolate is a great way to release some endorphins and zap those feelings of dread on Valentine’s Day. But go organic instead of biting into a regular chocolate bar.

How you benefit: Organic chocolate means that the product’s cacao content was farmed in a way that is environmentally suitable, thus avoiding any pesticide residues. That means you’re not eating harmful ingredients. Also, according to www.foodeditorials.com, an organic chocolate bar contains as many antioxidants as a glass of red wine.
How the world benefits: Going organic with your sweet treats means you’re supporting fair trade practices where the cacao beans are grown.

Eco-friendly gadgets

If you love anything techno related, make sure you choose green gadgets to play with this Valentine’s Day. Eco-friendly products are energy-efficient so they help you maximise on energy without wasting it unnecessarily. But they’re also cool. Think of egg water clocks that uses water technology to power itself or green cell phones that are biodegradable!

How you benefit: More energy-efficient gadgets are kinder to your wallet and take techno stress out of the picture. For instance, some cell phone charges use solar power so you don’t have to worry about your phone dying on you when you’re on the run.
How the world benefits: Eco-friendly gadgets help to increase the availability of resources for everyone because you’re not zapping away at our limited energy resources.

Eco rush

If you’re a sports or adrenaline fanatic, then why not spoil yourself with new equipment? Eco-friendly sports gear and products are more available these days, so buy yourself a fitness mat, surfboard or workout gear that doesn’t make use of any unnatural products. Puma is one of the first brands to ban PVC from its line, while Adidas’s Grun range make use of natural fabrics, so they’re a great start when considering spoiling yourself with new gear.

How you benefit: One of the best perks of being single on Valentine’s Day is that you don’t have to settle for receiving gifts you don’t like. With all the green sports offerings out there, you can buy what you really want this year. Plus, the release of endorphins is always a great way to make you feel perkier!
How the world benefits: Buying sport items that enable you to work outside in nature instead of a gym is a great way to focus on eco-friendliness. Going green with your sport hobbies is also a way of combining your green living with your exercise/sporting passions. Every bit helps, which in turn makes you feel good about yourself, inside and out. And who knows you may even meet someone, at least you´ll know you have a common interest!
