CES Goes Green in 2012

The Consumer Electronic Show was recently launched in Las Vegas and the exhibition has embraced a new green philosophy. CES is the largest gadget tradeshow in the world and it is featuring a number of environmentally friendly electronics.

Building on its award in 2009 for North America’s Greenest Show, CES 2012 is showcasing a number of green gadgets that are cost efficient and practical. One of these was a 60 watt LED light bulb that was debuted by the Lighting Science Group, who punted it as being inexpensive and environmentally friendly. The bulb is projected to last seventeen years and uses 85% less electricity than the standard bulb.

The Bracketron Stone GreenZERO charger is another green gadget that was launched at the show. The charger is designed to shut itself off from the power supply when the battery is full, which helps save saving electricity. The Nest Learning Thermostat looks set to replace old school thermostats and it features smart technology such as the ability to connect to the device via Wifi to change the temperature and dropping the temperature when the office is empty.

Another smart and green gadget that was launched at CES 2012 was the GE Green Mobile Power Station, a handy device that manages the power supply to a number of devices from computers to desk lamps, shutting off sockets when the devices are powered up.

CES has pioneered a number of other environmentally savvy savings, including a recycling program for hall and meeting room materials that reduces the carbon footprint of the exhibition and the sourcing of eco-friendly utensils and organic products for the catering. Almost all of the show equipment is run on clean, natural gas and the exhibition hall materials such as carpets and shelving are eco-friendly.
