LC designing for the planet

Lauren Conrad has come a long way since her days as an MTV starlet on “The Hills.” She’s now an accomplished author, columnist and advisor. But her real passion seems to be design; she already helms two successful fashion lines, and now she’s expanding her design empire even more.

Conrad has teamed up with the sustainable company BlueAvocado to design a line of eco-friendly accessories, including home and travel goods and cosmetics.

According to the BlueAvocado website, the line will launch this summer, and will include “stylish prints and new lifestyle products including reusable lunch, shopping, hydration, home storage, travel and cosmetic accessories. To reduce the use of finite natural resources, the first eco-collection will be made from beautiful textiles that up-cycle post consumer plastic bottles using Unifi’s Repreve fabric.”

For Conrad, the idea of expanding into green design is both important and exciting. ”The BlueAvocado partnership represents a synergy of things I love to do—design great products, enable women to realize their dreams, and inspire thoughtful action…. Once you realize the responsibility we have to improve our environment in our lifetime, you feel compelled to act with urgency. BlueAvocado provides a canvas for me to invite change,” she says.
