Nike has recently unveiled the world’s first 3D-printed performance sports bag, but don’t count on owning one yourself. The sportswear giant only made three copies of the carryall, which it’s billing the world’s first three-dimensionally printed performance sports bag.
Created exclusively for soccer stars Neymar Jr., Wayne Rooney, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who’ll be flashing the bag at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil this summer, the Rebento features a flexible, “Flyknit”-esque laser-sintered nylon base, a seamlessly fitted premium leather upper, and custom gold hardware emblazoned with the respective player’s name.
Rebento, which is Portuguese for “explode,” is an apt verb to describe today’s game, according to Martin Lotti, creative director for Nike Football. “We wanted to create something that was truly special for the game’s greatest players,” Lotti says in a statement. “We did this by utilizing one of the most cutting-edge technologies—3D printing—to make a bag that is unlike anything else.”
Three-dimensional printing allowed Nike to perform “unprecedented levels” of customization, while opening new possibilities for integrated individuality, he adds.
