The fashion looks for Spring 2014 are all about a fine blend between femininity and edginess. Although you want to be at the forefront of fashion, you don’t always have to purchase new clothing items.
Here are some ideas to help you upcycle your way to being trendy and chic this season:
1. Show the Shoulder
Dresses that sit off the shoulder are really hot this spring, so make sure your shoulders look smooth and gorgeous before rocking this trend. You can easily make your own off-the-shoulder dress or top with a long scarf that’s big enough for your body. Check out this cool tutorial. Another idea is to take an oversized t-shirt and turn it into an off-the-shoulder dress that’s perfect for a beach party. Get the instructions here. Hints of masculinity are in, so you could also use your boyfriend’s old t-shirt (if he doesn’t mind).
2. Board Short Skirts
You might think it’s weird, but board shorts are becoming classier items that you can pair with more formal accessories. Think tweed, faux leather and silk shorts. If it’s a no-no to wear board shorts to work, consider cutting your pair into a skirt.
3. Step it Down
If you can never wear your super-high heels without risking an ankle break, you’ll be glad to hear that low heels are hot this spring. Take the idea one step further by giving your current unwearable high heels a shorter ’do. A shoe repair shop will be able to shave off the heel so that you can enjoy the latest low heel trend while still getting wear out of your gorgeous shoes.
4.The New White Shirt
Spring/Summer 2014 runway shows for Valentino, Victoria Beckham and other designers flaunted new-look white shirts that give the staple wardrobe accessory something a little extra. This included patterns on the front, pockets or asymmetrical designs. Give your plain white shirt a little embellishment of your own to update it: you could add sequins to the collar or visually appealing buttons down the front.
5. Crooked Crystals
Clothing with jewels, diamonds and crystals are a hit this season, sure to make you dazzle at the girls’ lunch and party scene. The only change this year is that the jewels are stitched on in haphazard ways. Take a dress or shirt that needs revamping and pile on the shiny bits! Remember: no subtlety! It’s supposed to look messy and blingy.
