The Live Eco Remake Design Challenge is a sustainable design competition that challenges students and emerging designers to create mainstream clothing and objects whilst adhering to sustainable design principles and eliminating waste in their production methods. The themes for 2015 are URBAN LUXE for fashion and LIVING ROOM OBJECT for the object category. The sustainable design techniques that the competition will focus on are: upcycling, natural and organic fibres, materials with recycled content, reconstruction and zero-waste.

Prizes for the winning fashion designers this year include the opportunity to design a capsule collection for Hemporium, one of South Africa’s most established sustainable apparel retailers; an internship at Pick n Pay Clothing and the “special prize” winner will be awarded with the opportunity to design a Pick n Pay re-usable shopper, to be retailed in Pick n Pay stores. Our object winners will be receiving the latest Apple iPad and iPad Mini and the “special prize” winner for object will be awarded with a membership at The Maker Station in Woodstock.

There will be an open briefing session taking place on 26 March 2015 at 17h30 at The Bello Studio, Old Biscuit Mill Courtyard, in Woodstock, which all designers interested in participating in the 2015 competition cycle are encouraged to attend. Here, information will be presented by Live Eco, the organisers of the competition, as well as this year’s Remake Design Challenge material sponsors, where they will introduce their fabrics & fibres. This session will also be an opportunity for designers to ask any questions they may have surrounding the briefs before submitting their entries by 01 May 2015.
