Juicing is fun and healthy but sometimes it can feel a little out of place in winter when you want to curl up with something warm and nourishing to eat. That’s where the souping trend comes in.
What’s “Souping” About?
Souping has been called the new juicing. It’s all about focusing on a liquid diet but using savory and nourishing ingredients in delicious soups. Think creamy cauliflower or spinach puree, for instance. You can purchase these soups, either hot or cold, or you can make your own.
Healthy and Homemade
Be more creative than just eating a canned chicken-flavoured or butternut soup (remember that soups you buy often contain high amounts of salt and sugar!). Rather make your own soup. There are loads of recipes to give you great ideas for mealtimes, such as this carrot and oat recipe which is sure to get your day started on the right footing. Another idea is to add whole beans to your soup for a satisfying dinner. Souping is about giving your body the nutrients it needs and turning soup into a comforting winter treat without the use of artificial ingredients or preservatives.
Better Than Juicing?
Souping started thanks to a Los Angeles company called Soupure that wanted to make soups sexy. They state that a souping detox plan has many health benefits, such as giving you more energy and glowing skin.
Other claims have been made that souping is better for you than juicing because often the fibre in produce is eliminated during the juicing process. Souping, on the other hand, maintains the pulp, rind and seeds of the produce, preserving its fibre content. This is sure to give you more energy and vitality. Sometimes soups can even contain whole veggies and other ingredients to give you a filling meal. When veggies are used that contain high levels of antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, this will give you glowing skin, so there is truth to the claim.
The great thing about souping is that you can be flexible about it – you don’t have to choose to do the souping cleanse but can bring delicious soups into your winter diet anyway. Be a little imaginative with what you put into your soups and skip unhealthy ingredients so that you can get comfort food this winter without the extra calories.
