A new kind of green washing

1500 seagulls, 300 dragonflies, 50 fish and 750 water lilies have taken a home at the V&A Waterfront until September 5th. They’re all part of an exciting and beautiful art installation to celebrate the launch of new Skip liquid detergent.

Last night I attended the launch of the new skip liquid at the V&A Waterfront, amongst Cape Town’s most stylish fashionistas. We were entertained at an exquisite soiree of art, fashion and re-invention.

Ethne Whitley, spokesperson for Unilever says, “New Skip is better in so many ways. It’s a gentle yet effective detergent that cleans thoroughly while caring for the most delicate fabrics. We know women are going to be pleased to see that new Skip liquid detergent cares for their clothes as much as they do.”

“The Waterfront installation is a beautiful farewell to the trusted old Skip, and a stunning, exciting welcome to the new, improved liquid,” adds Kerry Alicks, Skip’s Brand Manager. “It’s also completely appropriate that the previous Skip bottles were used to show that the new packaging is recyclable.”

In a 2-month project guided by the skills of conceptual artist, Reep Verloren van Themaat, and respected design house, Mila, empty bottles were cut into specific shapes by hand, then joined together with cable ties, NO glue was used. (Just a single dragonfly took 16 cable-ties to create.)

And re-invention it truly is. Radically re-thought, new Skip concentrated liquid has Fibre Protect Technology to give you better looking clothes. It cleans in a new and better way, smoothing and aligning fibres so stains wash away more easily.

The result? A better clean, better shape, and better colour in either hot or cold water. There’s also no residue on your clothes because it rinses and dissolves more easily. Your clothes never looked better!

So, while you’re visiting the Skip installation at the Waterfront before September 5th, why not get yourself some new Skip concentrated liquid at the same time? Just FYI – the new skip smell is heavenly! It’s the new, better way to do laundry and know that you´re doing your bit for the environment too!

I´m off to give my threads the care they deserve in the washing machine…
