SalmonBar Restaurant Receives MSC Certification

Last night I went to the launch of The SalmonBar becoming MSC certified. The SalmonBar is now the first MSC restaurant in Africa to have a variety of MSC products on the menu and available for purchase in their deli.

The SalmonBar is situated in the heart of Franschhoek and has a chic yet cosy feel to it. Currently there are the following MSC products on the menu, all of which we sampled last night (delish!): MSC Wild Alaskan Salmon, North Sea Kipper, North East Atlantic Mackerel and South African Hake and there are hopes of expanding this product list in the near future.

What does this mean?

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is an independent, NPO, that ensures that accredited commercial fisheries are well managed and sustainable; this provides businesses and consumers with a choice of sustainable fish.

When you see the MSC eco label, you can be sure that the seafood bearing the label comes from a certified sustainable fishery.

So if you are in the mood for some guilt-free seafood then I would recommend you head over to The SalmonBar for some nosh that is fully traceable from source to plate – so you know the journey your food has travelled.
