Last week the judging panel sat for Round 1 of 2013’s Avant Garde dress, Live Eco’s upcycled fashion design competition, brought to you by Pick n Pay and The Body Shop in partnership with the Cape Town Fashion Council and vida e caffè; to select this year’s Top 10 finalists from the competing schools. This year the theme the students were given was “RESILIENCE” and they were free to interpret this in their own way. The point of the competition is to upcycle existing items of clothing into a new look that resembles “RESILIENCE” to the designer. Should they need or want to dye certain materials, they have to use natural or eco-friendly techniques.
